While Nganjuk known as town of onions, Lumajang is famously called as town of bananas. Lumajang is beautiful small town located in East Java that surrounded by forest and mountain. It’s really still green and shady place. If you know Mountain Semeru which is the highest mountain in Java means you know where Lumajang is.
Banana’s farmer in Lumajang explains the reason why they can plant a variety of bananas successfully. They said it’s because of the prolific soil. It’s unnecessary to give special treatment, just provide big hole to plant the bananas’s tree then put it inside the hole. They also said that it does not always use a big field to plant it. It doesn’t have routinely watering or giving manures. In a month it will be growing bigger and bear fruit.
In this case Lumajang has a lot of variety of bananas with various sizes too. From small to big size and different process to turn it into different food too. There are banana emas, banana susu, banana ambon, banana rajanangka, banana talun, banana kongkong, banana barlian, banana embuk, banana agung, banana nangka, banana klutuk, banana rojosajen, banana kepok, banana brentel pendis, banana emaskirana and so on that sprouting in Lumajang.
And the top of that banana agung is the most favorite one. Despite of its abnormal size as banana, banana agung is really delicious when cooked into chips. it's really crispy and savory. also not all bananas palatable when turning to chips. banana emas, kongkong, embuk , kepok are better to cook into the fried banana, not chips because they are too sweet and flabby.
